PRO/EDR> Streptococcus, group A, invasive - Belgium: fatal, increase cases

Since December 2016, the National Reference Centre (NRC) for beta-hemolytic streptococci has received a higher number [of] invasive group A streptococci (GAS) [also known as _Streptococcus pyogenes_] isolates than previous years. Streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS), necrotizing fasciitis, and puerperal fever or sepsis caused by GAS are notifiable in Belgium, but the local laboratories are not obliged to submit the isolates to the NRC.
