A safety reminder regarding how to handle animals infected with distemper came out of Frankfort [Thu 16 Jan 2020].
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife confirmed 3 raccoons found within city limits tested positive for distemper in December [2019].
Distemper is caused by a virus and often occurs in raccoons, gray foxes, coyotes and, occasionally, skunks.
