A case of a rare virus transmitted by ticks has been detected in Cayuga county for the 1st time, the furthest west the virus has been found in the state, according to health officials [Mon 1 Oct 2018].
The Cayuga County Health Department announced that the Powassan virus, spread by the bite of the black-legged tick or deer tick, has been confirmed in an adult patient.
