Bovine tuberculosis has infected 2 convicts at a prison in the latest example of the cattle disease jumping between species. The cases were diagnosed at Erlestoke prison, near Devizes in Wiltshire, in 2017 and 2018, said Public Health England (PHE).
"PHE supported the investigation and advised on the screening of contacts in the community and in the prison," it added.
The investigation could not find the source of the disease, which may be transmitted from cattle by eating infected meat,
