Chronic Wasting Disease -- United States
Chronic wasting disease [CWD] has spread to free-ranging deer in an area of the state where it previously had been detected only in captive deer.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission [Wed 12 Jul 2017] announced a free-ranging whitetail buck in Bell Township, Clearfield County, has tested positive for chronic wasting disease.
The CWD-positive buck was shot by a wildlife conservation officer 7 Jun 2017 on State Game Lands 87 because it showed signs of being diseased. Preliminary tests
