PRO/EDR> Shigellosis, antimicrobial resistant - South Asia: spread

South Asia could be the source of a fast-spreading antibiotic-resistant strain of the bacteria _Shigella sonnei_ that causes shigellosis, the diarrhoeal disease, says a new study [1].
Researchers at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam, used next-generation sequencing technology to investigate _S. sonnei_ samples resistant to antibiotics obtained from clinics around South Asia. For comparison, they also sequenced resistant samples from Australia and Ireland.
