Tick-borne Encephalitis -- United States
A disease [virus] found in deer ticks has been on the rise in Massachusetts and New Hampshire for the last few years. According to an article in the journal of Clinical Infectious Diseases, 8 cases of the Powassan virus were reported in Massachusetts and New Hampshire from 2013-2015 [1].
Larry Dapsis told the Cape Cod Times that a tick inspection in April [2016] found that Powassan [virus] was active in 4 of the 6 sites surveyed.
