Murine typhus fever is a disease that occurs when people come into contact with fleas infected with bacteria called _Rickettsia typhi_. Since 2008, when murine typhus became endemic in Travis County [Texas], the annual number of reported cases has ranged from 4 to 54.
As of 11 Jul 2016, 14 cases had been reported to Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services, whereas in all of 2015, we had a total of 15 cases. Most of the 2016 cases (84 percent) have been hospitalized. All cases
