Japanese Encephalitis -- India
Assam has recorded the highest number of Japanese encephalitis (JE) deaths in the country this year [2016].
According to latest National Health Mission (NHM) figures, Assam has recorded highest number of JE casualties in the country with 85 death cases. Uttar Pradesh recorded the 2nd highest number with 68 JE deaths, followed by Odisha with 39 JE deaths.
From 1 Jan-27 Nov [2016], as many as 183 persons died of acute encephalitis syndrome (AES), while 85 persons succumbed to Japanese
