West Nile Virus -- United States
The Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) reported 21 Dec 2016 that Oklahoma has confirmed its 16th equine West Nile virus (WNV) case of the year.
"The 24-year-old gelding located in McCurtain County was showing mild neurologic signs and was not vaccinated," the EDCC said.
West Nile is transmitted to horses via bites from infected mosquitoes. Clinical signs for WNV include flu-like signs, where the horse seems mildly anorexic and depressed; fine and coarse muscle and skin
