An 11-year-old American quarter horse gelding, and his owner and rider, had worked for years to qualify for the World Series of Team Roping in Las Vegas, finally making that dream a reality by qualifying in 2016. Just before they were set to compete, however, [the gelding] contracted botulism, so [his owner] raced him to the University of California, Davis, veterinary hospital to try to save his life, according to a university release.
