Other Plant Disease -- Jamaica
The [Jamaica] Ministry of Agriculture is reporting the emergence of a disease affecting the cocoa crop known as frosty pod rot. This is the 1st time that the highly contagious disease has been confirmed in the Caribbean.
Agriculture Minister Karl Samuda said the presence of the disease was confirmed following tests by the Plant Quarantine Unit. It is concentrated in Clarendon [Jamaica]. A cocoa farmer in the parish reported the fungal disease in late August [2016].
