Whooping Cough -- Australia
The number of whooping cough cases across Greater Geelong has risen, prompting calls for adults to get their booster shots. There have been 55 cases in the Geelong region so far this year [2018], slightly more than the 51 recorded at the same time last year [2017].
Barwon Health says the booster vaccine can help stop the spread of the infection. Health officials say one in every 200 babies who contract whooping cough will die, and immunisation is the best way to reduce the risk.
