A bloom of potentially toxic algae at the Tomahawk Lagoon has prompted a warning from the Otago Regional Council for people and dogs to avoid contact with its water.
The council yesterday [20 Oct 2017] released a statement saying a sample it took from the water body at Ocean Grove tested positive for cyanobacteria, after it was informed of the bloom by a citizen scientist.
Signs were erected at the lagoon yesterday [20 Oct 2017] near the beach access to warn the public of the risks
