Municipal sources reported today [17 Apr 2017] that at least 5 residents of Petropolis, a tourist destination about 70 kilometers [44 mi] from Rio de Janeiro, have been diagnosed with malaria.
According to a statement from the mayor's office, the 5 victims are men aged 16 to 54. All are being treated for the disease, which is transmitted by the anopheles mosquito.
