Strangles -- United States
In January of this year [2019], there were confirmed cases of equine strangles in Snohomish County, Washington. The Washington Department of Agriculture has confirmed on 15 May 2019, 2 horses on a property in the county were positive for strangles. Eight other horses were exposed on the property.
A 4-year-old Arab gelding and a 4-year-old Arab mare on that property began showing clinical signs of strangles on 11 May 2019. Those signs included fever, nasal discharge and swollen lymph nodes.
