South Dakota's state veterinarian says chronic wasting disease has been confirmed in a captive elk in Clark County.
State Veterinarian Dr. Dustin Oedekoven said Wednesday [20 Mar 2019] that the owner of the 21-month-old female elk noticed the animal was sick and contacted his veterinarian. The USDA's National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames, Iowa later confirmed that samples tested positive for the disease.
