A new race of stripe rust in durum wheat has been discovered in Mexico. Upwards of 100 per cent of some fields are infected.
The new race so far has not been reported in California. Jorge Dubcovsky, UC Davis, encourages wheat producers to carefully monitor their durum fields and report any increase in infection relative to previous years. [Several durum] varieties have increased susceptibility to the new race.
