France's agriculture ministry confirmed on Thursday [24 Mar 2016] that a case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), or mad cow disease, had been discovered in the north eastern region of Ardennes. The suspected case, found in a 5 year old cow, was identified last week [week ending 20 Mar 2016] during a test carried out on cattle older than 48 months after slaughter.
