VP1 sequencing (performed at the Jordan University of Science and Technology) has determined the genotype of these viruses as O/ME-SA/Ind-2001d.

Officials have started pulling all the fish from the lake in Banff National Park where the deadly fish parasite that causes whirling disease was 1st detected in Canada, in a bid to stop its spread.
Whirling disease now infects entire Oldman River basin, including Waterton Lakes National Park.

A cholera outbreak in Yemen has killed 209 people in recent weeks with 17 200 suspected cases across the war-torn country, the United Nations children's agency said [Wed 17 May 2017]. UNICEF's Yemen mission said that there had been an "alarming increase" in cholera-related deaths.

Punjab is in the midst of a chickenpox epidemic as at least 19 deaths have been reported from Faisalabad's hospitals thus far in 2017.
According to the health department, 1591 cases of chickenpox have been reported in Punjab, of which 821 were from Faisalabad district alone.
